The only surface piercing that appeal to me are the Madison (Somehow I find it elegant.) And the hip piecing.
Only because the chance of them effecting you is low. I had a friend who had a wrist piercing and because it's an area that gets in contact with a lot of things it eventually got ripped out accidently.
I don't even have a piercing, though that sounds so excruciatingly painful, I can't even believe it.

The wrist in that first picture looked seriously infected.
