What's so wrong with mainstream bands?

I really don't see why you hold grudges against them.

I mean a lot of bands would love to have their music heard all around the world and it becomes popular.
Well, good for them. That's an awesome thing.

Why do most of you get all pissed off when someone says they like [mainstream band]? Like they're some kind of poser or something...

Music is music. It's whatever you like. I don't see why I would get bashed by a couple "hardcore" kids if I said I enjoyed listening to a band I heard on the radio.

I like mainstream bands.

I just don't like ones that suck, and sound the same as everyone else.

usually when bands become mainstream they tend to change...well some do
like Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, last time i heard them on the radio the growling was censored out, and now they don't growl anymore (sorry that was the only example i could think of >.>)
but i do like the non awful mainstream bands

There are some mainstream bands that are good, and some that aren't.
Everyone is going to have different taste in music, so it doesn't seem right to bash people just because they like certain mainstream bands but it tends to happen anyways.

The only problem with mainstream is the change in sound some make.
They all start to sound similar.
Other than that.

Well changing sound is a given.
Who wants to make music with the same fucking sound and play it over a million times for the rest of your life.

That's sounds like hell more than making music.

well i mean it totally depends how you change your sound. some bands like All Time Low haven't changed very much and they still sound fine! but then you get BMTH (sorry only example i could think of) who change up a bit and people freak out. it all depends. i think like some bands grow and change up their sound as they get older and they are influenced by different things, and sometiems that leads them to getting more popular and going mainstream. either way they are still the same band!

also, i think when bands begin to get mainstream,
they tend to get a different set of fans, kinda like whe ETF got really famous, i know people who listened to like Hannah Montana started liking them, that's probablly where the poser card is played
and i think i just pointed out the obvious... so yaaaayyyyy

Who are you to call someone a poser...?

I think we've all started out a poser at least once in our lives. We've all been n00bs.

Just because you like a certain music doesn't make you a poser.

Theres a reason they got to be mainstream; either they are good, have stupid fans who will listen to literally anything and call it good, or got lucky with MTV/something similar.

so what if they are a good band, mtv finds them and makes them mainstream, but they dont change their sound at all and are stil really good? does that make it wrong...i dont think so

I never said that it makes it wrong. It seems the only thing MTV can find now is shitty rappers that sound damn similar to the same shitty rapper before them. Thats irrelevant though.
