what makes you emo??
I'm who I am. I'm depressed and feel like there is nothing for me, I don't know if that's what someone will label as "emo" but I don't care, I am what I am and if people want to label me fine, I don't care of their opinion.

I don't agree. since when did you have to have a sad reason for becoming emo? it's a style, not some cult for depressed outcasts. emo/scene is a fashion and music thing (and yes, for many it also means some sort of 'emotional thinking', which often tends to be a bit... dramatized).
maybe that's your reasons that suits your philosophy for becoming "emo" but c'mon, it hasn't actually anything to do with the style. don't get the whole thing wrong.
well i know that!!i was speaking of my personal meaning about the state of mind!!
and i know the other meaning of emo!! so don't bother to lecture me!!

"to be emo u like have to have ur reason..." you said it yourself. and although it was your >personal< poser-philosophy, that doesn't make me want to agree with you. I'm not lecturing you. I'm simply explaining why I don't agree on your "personal philosophy" on what makes you emo, but you didn't seem to get that :]

I agree with u plus there is also the part of expressing ur emotions through music or writing

Yes, and I'll become a muslim just because I'm lonely and no one cares about me.
but I do agree about the 'expressing-yourself-part'

Then tell me why that music sounds the way it does...
Tell me why "Emo Kids" listen to it.
"looking emo" doesn't matter. As a matter of fact, I think that people who actually try for the appearance don't have it all right. It's the mindset that makes someone "Emo," not the appearance.
Most of us might wear black and listen to emocore/screamo, but it's just a part of our personalities and feelings towards life.
To me, emo is...
- Self Hatred
- The feeling of being misunderstood
- The feeling of having no true friends
- Broken heart
I'm definitely one of them

labels are so freaking dumb but they are so important. If we didn't have them it would make it a hell of slot harder to identify things.

I don't agree. well just because the music sounds 'the way it does' doesn't mean that the people listening to it are 'like that'. I'm pretty sure everybody who is listening to Slipknot (for example) doesn't walk around hating and hitting people, just because pretty much all of the Slipknot songs are all about that. it doesn't work that way. likewise, you can be a very happy person and still listen to "depressive music" (emocore with some sort of sad lyrics for example).
looking emo does matter (if you want to be one). in fact, you can't really be emo without 'the look', in the same way as you can't really be considered a punk or goth without the look. it's about fashion and music (mostly anyways).
according to your personal beliefs on what emo is,.. anyone who's just had a broken heart or been through a divorce is emo? I know a lot of lonely people, that doesn't make them emo.
I mean, my grandma is pretty lonely, is she emo then? yes, she's gotta be! everybody who is having problems in their lives are emo now<3<33<3<3 are the suicide-bombers in Israel emo (they're suicidal, and I'm pretty sure they don't have any true friends)? of course they are, that's what emo is all about! not.
that's just crap. those are only excuses for posers fooling themselves they belong to an imaginary group/subculture with the same perceptions. the real subculture hasn't really anything to do with it. emo/scene is a fashion and music thing (and yes, with some mentality involved for some).
you're definitely one of them? good for you (or maybe not? maybe you don't even want to be "emo", but you have no choice since your life is so sad?)
I'm so sick of that nonsense ><

actually...i think that it depends on your own view of it. i mean. you just basically looked at my pictures and judged me by how i looked on my profile. So if being emo isnt about being depressed then basically all you guys do is walk around all pissed off with hair in your eyes and dark clothes and listen to music about killing yourself and cutting yourself and you say you hate your life when really you dont you just think its cool? well...if you ask me i'd rather kill myself then be emo. because if wat your saying emo is...thats fucking retarded. why the fuck would you pretend to be depressed and act like you want to kill youself when yu really dont...

no. that's basically not what I did. I also judged you from your opinions on what you >think< it is. yup we like that kind of music, it's deep. it's not pretending, some actually are depressed. but everyone who's emo are not depressed and suicidal. sure some are, but then every teenager is like that, and it doesn't really have anything directly to do with being emo. you're not emo simply because you're depressed. that'd be too easy. most people i know (scenesters/emos) are not depressed, but of course there are emos that are really suicidal as well as a 'normal' person could be that, or just as well a goth or a punk.

True, but from what I've seen, emos/scenesters are more willing to show it.
I still believe that emos and scenesters are just normal people who have had their music and appearance preferences altered by the state of their mind.
I believe that anyone who dresses scene/emo and listens to that kind of music just for the sake of looking that way is a poser.

yup they are. you're right about that.
yeah I think that sounds reasonable... you should never 'join' a subculture simply because of what others will think about you (to be popular/cool/whatever).
