K, so you're asking for right now? The top five bands I've been listening to recently are:
1. Neutral Milk Hotel - an indie band from the mid nineties. I just got into them when I downloaded their album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
2. Bomb the Music Industry! - local punk band, highly recommended. They offer all of their stuff on their site for free at www.bombthemusicindustry.com.
3. The Arcade Fire - indie. I've liked them for a while and now I'm just listening to them more than ever.
4. The Jesus and Mary Chain - noise pop band from the eighties/nineties. Just got into them recently.
5. Pavement - second verse same as the first.

The quality of those bands varies from "Holy crap I hate them" to "Holy crap I love them." At least, it does for me.
