What is it like believing in God?

by xactionsspeaklouderx on 11-04-2009 4:59 am

if god is the supreme ruler, then all of humanity is enslaved. there for, the only way to be free is to live free of god's rule.
whether or not god exists is irrelevant to me. if you were to present me with undeniable proof that god exists, or that he doesnt exist, it wouldn't change the way i live my life. i know i'm living right for me and the world around me, so i could care less if that's acceptable to some deity

What has always made me wonder was this: who gave whatever deity the right to put rules on us or we go into eternal hellfire. Why should he honestly care what we do on earth. Religion limits you in life. You only have one damn life if there is a supreme deity he should want you to have fun in your temporary body.

Not all religions tell you how to live or say you're going to heaven or hell.

You know, it'd make this thread a lot better if everybody would stop categorizing one another. Not all atheists are closed-minded assholes, and not everybody who practices a certain religion is ignorant.

Personally, I'm an atheist. I'm the kind of person who can't believe in something that isn't proven to be there, but I'm willing to admit there's a possibilty that there's some form of higher being.

Edit: Bah, it sounds like I'm agnostic. What I was trying to say is that I don't believe in any form of higher being whatsoever, but I'm not going to put down people that do, because who knows, they might be right.

Yeah, but when people give religious reasons for their political views, I view that as putting a target on their chest and them screaming, "Tell me how stupid my religion is."

I don't think any religion is stupid. Let people believe what they want to. It's their life and not yours.

but when their religion says that I'm going to burn in hell and they have to "save" me?
When their religion dictates their political views, and causes laws that oppress me?
When their religious views give them the "right" to beat or murder me?
When their religion denies me the right to be treated as a human being?

Religion should be like sexuality: what you do in your own home is your business, but please, don't fuck in the street.

So people shouldn't be able to hold hands, kiss, or talk about their attractions in public either?
Awesome stuff.

Terrible analogy.

and anyway, holding hands would be like saying "bless you" when someone sneezes
people can say "im catholic" which is no different to saying "im gay"
But preaching at people is like fucking in front of people
no one wants to see that

Bah,
You know I love you, Kittens. So get some damn sleep D:

Apparently some Christians do want to see it.
Isn't that what Jesus did?

Eh, you know what I meant. As long as somebody's not cramming their beliefs down another's throat, then it doesn't really matter to me.

Edit: For me, it's like this. I don't agree with any particular relgion, but I don't exactly thing it's stupid. Granted, I find some things ridiculous, but I'm not going to be all "LAWLZ UR RELIGION SUX."

It doesn't feel like anything. I get to talk to someone when I go to bed at night but that's basically it.

The whole fire and brimstone way Christianity spreads disgusts me and makes me lose faith.

But hell, everyone needs a scapegoat. God is just the world's favorite.
