The Official I want music what should I get Thread
K, trying to clear some clutter in B&M with this thread. Post here if you want people to recommend you stuff. Try to give details as to what you want, and when suggesting music give actual thought to it rather than just randomly picking some of your favorite bands. It's possible that you have very different tastes in music, and you listing your favorites isn't going to help.

My Chemical Romance seems to focus on a major key tonality, and pop-punk/orchestral rock (more so in The Black Parade) sounds.
I haven't heard much of Within Temptation, but I sampled 'em real quick. This band on the other hand, focuses on a minor key tonality in the epitome of their work, while being accompanied by eerie, high pitched female vocals (from what I heard anyway).
My Personal Recommendation:
If you haven't heard of Skillet, you might be interested in listening to them.
Here's a sample for you.

I'm looking for more bands/singers really focused on piano and/or acoustic sounds.
Got anything for me?

Acoustic recommendations:
Kimya Dawson: Very simplistic folk music, or anti-folk. You might already know her stuff from the Juno soundtrack, she did a large portion of it.
Andy McKee: On the opposite end of the spectrum as far as musicianship goes. This guy is incredible on the guitar. He's got a lot of videos of himself on youtube, so do a search for him.

Great, glad I could help. =]
Tristan, haha, I know you've gotten quite a few recommendations, but if you like music with alot of piano in it, you might like Billy Joel. Yes, he's a bit of an oldie, but he's a brilliant musician.

As for me, can anyone recommend a good band that sounds like a mix between The Academy Is... and Motion City Soundtrack?

You might want to check out The Smashing Pumpkins. I haven't heard a lot of My Chemical Romance but apparently MCR stated that the Pumpkins Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness album was an inspiration for there The Black Parade. I don't think the two bands sound very similar though, to be honest. Anyway, here's a quick simple. This song is called Bullet with Butterfly Wings, it was the first single of the previously mentioned Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness.
