They're so above me and and full of grace.
It's people like that, that piss me off. Not you Ningage, the signature.
"This means war" Are you kidding me.
Let me just start off by saying that I have been going to hardcore shows, and following the scene since 2002. So I'm not just some random girl who doesn't know what she's talking about. But straight edge has taken on a whole new feel. I used to be able to walk into our local concert halls, and feel SAFE. Now I have to worry about gangs like our local SOSF, or FSU being there. I'm not going to sit here and complain about getting hit. You're at a show, sometimes your elbow can't block everything and you get hit once and a while. But when a GROWN man, jumps over another person to me, where I'm standing on a bench, and punches me purposely in the ribs, that my friends, is fucked up, and where I draw the line.
I'm also getting sick of them straight edge fucks with the whole "high and mighty" attitude. I'll be the first to say I have more respect for an edge person than someone normal, being as they have to resist the temptations we so easily give into every day. But when you have some little douche bag in your face, telling you you're a bad person because you smoke cigarettes? Really?
I've helped promote bands, moved into my grandparents to help take care of them, straight A's in all my classes, always there to lend an ear to a friend in need, or a shoulder to cry on. But all of a sudden because I light up, I'm a horrible person? Screw you guys.
Sorry, I'm venting, but I'm had it up to here with this crap.

I don't drink, smoke, do drugs or have promiscuouss sex.
But, I don't call myself straight edge.
I don't want the restrictions to never be able to do anything of those things (even though the sex and drinking is the only thing even SLIGHTLY appealing)
And, I don't have enough respect for myself, or others.
Who knows, I might still be like this in 10 years, and call myself straight edge.

i like your views venus, but for me the restrictions of never doing these things just reassures me that it is something i wish to persue.
although i can see situations where i may break the 'rules' (though these only involve self destruction- a method of suicide) i dont want to do any of the things above, and the fact that there is a thing like this helps me with peer pressure etc.
im not going to deny that i probably would be different without the knowledge of philosophies like this, but i will say that it does suit the type of person i am. (people around me arent surprised i dont want to drink or smoke, and when it comes to the sex, im pretty frigid)
this is why i agree with practices like this philosophy and others like religions, as they help others make choices that otherwise would be deemed idiotic.

Labels in general piss me off
But this one in particular gets to me
I don't rape children either, but I don't label myself because of that fact
Live your life as you see fit, don't go around telling me about, because I honestly couldn't give a flying fuck

i agree
if someone seeks help, its alright to offer it
if someone has a genuine problem, its alright to offer advice
but if someone is perfectly fine, jamming your views down their throats is not only ineffective, but counter productive!

Blah, fuck it.
When I move back in America I'll be drinking, smoking some cigars and having sex with my love. Life is too short. I want to have fun.

completely abstaining from such activities is great and all, but what takes even more work is be able to do things like drink alcohol in moderation and maintain that equilibrium

i guess but the peer pressure to drink and have sex is enourmous.
well drinking and sex in particular (from my experience)
people who dont do those things are deemed as geeks who shouldnt go outside, because they're scared of the world.

I'm 'straight edge' and have been for quite awhile, but I'm not an 'edge kid' as I can't do any of that stuff 'legally.' But well people do it anyway underage... You can't be a REAL straight-edge until you can legally do the things.

Hey now. I made it through this summer of partying 4 or 5 days out of the week and sleeping on whoevers couch I crashed on without any STD's, hangovers, or overdoses. Though, there was a car accident. But, we were rear ended at a stop light. Wasn't our fault. (:
