Why do people want to be considered normal, but not unique/whatever?
Being normal doesn't exclude being unique. Being unique IS normal.
Normal is what is true for most people.
For example illnesses are not normal (they are also not "cool", but that's another issue): being anorexic is not normal. Cutting is not normal. Severe drug abuse is not normal. Depression is not normal.
And as I have said: being unique is normal. Everyone is different from the others, individuality is normal - to a certain degree.
If a person is "not normal", it is only in one or few aspects. If normality wouldn't exist, daily life would be near impossible. Members of mensa for example might not be normal concerning intelligence - but most of them will have their heart, liver, etc in their normal places. Without most people being normal there would be no medicine (imagine the doctors having to search through your whole body if they have to remove your appendix), no mass-production of goods (and before you say that's good, think again: do you really want your car, your chair, your computermouse, your table, etc handmade for you - and can you pay that?), no public transport, etc.
Sometimes not being normal is good, sometimes it's ok and sometimes it's bad. There is nothing wrong with being normal.
Why are scene kids so obsessed with not wanting to be normal? Do you think it makes you a better human?
Why are we so obsessed with superlatives? Why does no one want to lead a normal, average life anymore (though most of us will)?
