Personally, I think Hot Topic is a joke. Pretty much always have, and especially since they started selling coon tail extensions. I just loved how people always thought they were disconnecting themselves from "fashion culture" and all of that, by shopping there. When in reality, Hot Topic is part of Gap.

I do wander in there from time to time to check out the band merch, but in the past 2 years the only things I have bought from there is a Suicide Silence CD, and an Alice in Wonderland necklace.

Good for band shirts. Most of there stuff is generic though. I do think it's kind of overrated as well.

I learned that in the beginning of the summer at this vintage shop. And I thought it was the funniest thing EVER!
I stopped shopping there in like april. Its so poser around here, you'll see people in head to toe hot topic, shit extensions and all.
Freaking hilarious (:

Eh, I've known about it for years. Not that I hate on Hot Topic solely for the purpose that it's part of Gap, because there are some clothes from Gap that I like, an their undies are comfy. ^.^ But it's just that a lot of people who shop there think they're being all "fuck the mainstream" and "non conformist". When really, they're just putting money in another major corporations pocket.

good if you are a scene kid, horrible if you are any other alternative style. (goth, punk, harajuku, visual kei...)
id never shop there, but not because I am think they have bad clothes.

They don't even sell scene clothes. Then again, my idea of scene is far different than most peoples on this site.

???
there is probably more than one type of scene though.
there is never only one section of a style, there are subsections

Yeah. Like this is what I consider emo.

And sure, a lot of people on here will make the argument that "emo" is a genre and all of that, and that's okay I get that. But that is still how I see them.

That, to me is scene. I just think they're emos who have evolved a bit. More sophisticated and put together looking. (I hope my friend doesn't get mad at me for using her picture if she ever finds this) >.<

Maybe as the people who look like the above picture start getting older they'll start making different choices in what they wear, and how they wear their hair. Hopefully at least, till then, they'll always be emo's to me and belong in Hot Topic. Call me shallow, but hey. It's how I, and mostly everyone in my area feels. (:

But yeah, I agree with you in the subsection aspect. Everyone has their own style and take on things.
