emo/scene hair how do you style it?

ok I'm a dude that has thick curly hair that I straighten and blow dry but I need to do more so it stays straight so I know some kids use hairspray and gels but how exactly do they put it in their hair like when its wet or when its dry so please help I just want my hair to look good.

Well it'd be nice to have a pic so i could see what it looks like. (:
lol, what i usually do is of course straighten it, as straight as possible..
yes i have natural curly hair too. >.<
and having it thinned out or razor cut helps (for a spikey look.)
idk *shrug* i shake my head to give it kinda a messy look XD
or teasing it helps to give it a spiky/sceneish look..yeah.
