alot of people are easily able to accept the possibility that reality may be different than what they believe.

athiests just dont seem to understand the importance of faith when it comes to religion.
e.g. I know that logically there is no universal energy to the universe, but i still have faith that there is.

how many religeous members on this site can you honestly find that are unable to accept other viewpoints?

If it's so very important to them, then they should be able to answer the questions to their faith, no?

some religeous questions have no answers.

If you're so in tuned with it and find it so important, they should at least some kind of answer.
Otherwise, it seems that it's blind faith.

not really
science and mathematics have problems as well, inanswerable questions, and no one seems to question them...

People do all the time, they really do. Rolling Eyes

And at least we can make progress with finding our questions that are NOT unanswerable, simply not answered yet. (I.E. The Large Hadron Collider and Higgs Boson Particle)

well what questions could you possibly have about religion???

questions like the omnipitence paradox, though unanswerable, at least have a point to them.

science and religion have different functions in society, the fact that people question them is laughable.

EDIT: COMPARE them..

Not really, when it all boils down, science and religion have rather similar functions: religion and science are both trying to answer the really tough questions. They just take very different approaches to answering them, and come up with very different answers.

serious???
and here i was thinking that science was the study of the world, and that religion was the belief in different theologies that were (in most likelihood) thought up to control the masses.

they are different, just face it.
science is about searching for the answers to the universe, and to forward mankind, while religion is about trying to keep wide masses of people in control, trying to keep people moral and also making death seem less scary.
although over the last few thousand years religion has had alot of negative impact on the world, i still think that only because of the idiotic, insane people in charge.

Religion isn't morality, by far...

Religion was originally made to fill in the gaps we couldn't understand. Why is there lightning? The Gods were mad at us.

People want answers and religion gave us some before we could understand them more fully. And when science came around it gave us answers too.

Answers comfort people, even when you'd think they wouldn't help because of what the answers consist of. People need to know. Even when knowing is scary.

So in my opinion, both science and religion comfort.

Seriously, I rarely know half of what the fuck you're saying.
I know you don't speak native English, but I rarely even get your main message.

You claim it's stupid to compare them, it's really not. They are obviously very different, but that doesn't mean they don't have similarities, i.e. both of them try to explain the origin of the world, how life came about, why humans became so powerful in comparison to other animals etc.
If it wasn't for the fact that science and religion were offering different answers for the same questions, there wouldn't be so many science vs. religion type arguments. If they were truly different there would be no conflict; in the way that you never see a poetry vs. cars argument.

Key point though: Recognising the similarities doesn't equal saying they are the same.
