:O ash my goodness
i never come o the fashion forum but i see youve taken up residence here, and for good reason.
:]
this is coming from a future hair stylist, this is an AMAZING thread. ive been looking for something like this.
also i have some questions.
Okay, as a "scene" hair wearer, I've gone through various phases of hair dye, bleaching, styling phases, and well numerous damaging.
youve seen it for yourself over time XD (pictures)
And as this process has come to be over time, I've had to cut and razor my own hair because of frying damage and split ends to the point that i could just pinch and pull on the ends of my hair and it would break off and my hair wouldnt even grow for months. : [
So lately I've been leaving it alone and if i DO do anything to it, it's simply putting in extensions and its good enough for me.
My hair is growing a bit now but the rate of it is and always has been very slow.
This brings me to my question.
What do you think, (and suggest) about Protein Shampoo?
(oh oh oh, and I wanted to ask you may not know much about it but just in case, do you think any of these products would work on extensions (its human hair) because theyre getting dry o_O they dont look as natural as they used to, any suggestions?)
Scene Hair Guide #1: Products
RE: Scene Hair Guide #1: Products
Shame this thread kind of died.
But i have so many questions since i essentially started doing the same.
I would go out and buy new products all the time to try stuff out.
At first i died my hair up crazily so i tried numerous, numerous products to get the hold i wanted. As seen in my avatar, i eventually got it. But that was a while back. Now im trying to accept long hair. And my goal is to essentially get hair like this:
And basically my question would be, what products/techniques would i have to do in order to get a similar effect.
Additional info:
I wash my hair every single day. Shampoo+conditioner (brands vary as ive been trying different stuff, currently using axe though). I own a straightener (though its not a great one, just bought it cause of the low-cost). I tend to use Tresemme heat tamer spray before blow drying my hair. Im always in a rush since i have to be ready for school like 45min after i wake up (waking up earlier wont work since bro uses shower).
As far as prices go for products, im not keen on spending too much money. Id rather buy something that has quality but at a fair fair price. Also, i will be dying my hair to that same shade of blonde in about a months time, thus why im asking now. I kind of want to get prepared for it.
PS> Some people say that washing their hair the night before is better? However, if i do that, when i wake up my hair isnt the same. It actually seems a bit greasier? And thus, im not sure what i need. Im not even sure what type of hair i have. All i know is just thats its for the most part, straight. Im also not sure how much damage ive done to my hair or anything.
Thx :O

@leechie- washing your hair the night before might be a good idea for you, cos it being the tiniest bit greasy will give it some hold. Its only greasy cos you've slept on it. Brush/comb/whatever it towards your face with a bit of hairspray on the brush, and then you can either set it in place by using straightening irons and then wax/hairspray, or just use your fingers and wax to get the exact shape you want...
See if that works, and if not...[shrugs]

RE: Scene Hair Guide #1: Products
okay. like, wow!
I have been using that bed-head serum and it has caused a build up. That's because I have thick hair. I should really start using some proper shampoo or conditioner. The ones we buy in my house seem to cause buildup so I avoid them. Such as : herbal essances ( think i soooo spelled that wrong)
anyway, I heard olive oil makes your hair soft too. But, use in moderation please XD
thanks ashr. XD.

When your hairs still wet, run some gel through the top layers, blow dry it. And straighten it. If your going for that "scene" big hair look, you need to learn how to tease it.
I suggest watching youtube videos.
And honestly, your top layers have to be short enough or it WILL look like shit.
And if your hairs too thick, next time you get it cut, get them to thin it out.

Well straightening alone should be enough. Which says that something's wrong there. I wrote this thing back in a post about the same thing:
Ashr wrote:
Guys, it shouldn't take nearly that long. Something is going wrong and you're most likely damaging your hair.
I'm going guess and say that you're suffering from one of the following problems...
Your technique isn't quite right.
You shouldn't have to redo sections over and over, it should be nice and straight ideally after the first pass, definitely after the second.
You're letting your hair dry all over the place.
After you shower you should take a second to gently brush it into a rough shape, or ideally blow dry in the direction you style it. The flatiron isn't there for 100% of it.
You're not using thermal protectant.
You need it to help you to style your hair with the iron, plus when you don't use it your hair is being damaged and it's harder to straighten over time.
You're not conditioning your hair.
Conditioner repairs and prevents damage to the hair making styling easier, you need to use it. Also most good conditioners contain nice things like lubricants to make styling even easier.
You're using a bad iron.
Not everyone needs an expensive Chi or Solia, but metal ones will damage your hair over time, a ceramic with a tourmaline coating is bare minimum.
Your iron is too hot.
If you're iron is adjustable you don't need to use the highest setting. VERY course hair (and honestly your hair probably isn't there) needs about 380-410 degrees. For normal hair 360-380. For hair that's fine, bleached, or damaged, less than 360. For those with irons that don't show temp, go with the middle setting and see if that works, your hair shouldn't burn, smoke, or feel rough after you make a pass.
Check to see if it's one of these things. If it's not and you're still not able to get it straight let me know and I'll help you figure it out. ^-^

Ok first just let me say this - Ash you are amazing and thanks to you I have some of the greatest hair ever.
Anyways I've been using NExuss Sleekstress shampoo and Pureology essential repair conditioner for awhile now, and my hair was amazingly soft and easy to straighten.
Well recently i jsut switched to the super straight system, and now my hair is just been dry, tangly and unruly which makes me pretty depressed. Am i doing something wrong? Or is it just that it doesnt work and i should go back to the old conditioner? Thanks XD

Glad I could help.
Honestly I used their superstraight stuff for a while and I had similar problems. I moved to their hydrate stuff and it worked much better. I'd say finish up the bottle you've got then switch next time, it's amazing.
Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

Compared to the Essential repair how amazing is it? that's what i used to use so unless i get good reasoning it's better i'll probably just go back to avoid failure and money blown in my pocket XD

Honestly I've never used essential repair so I can't say. I do know that it's my favorite conditioner among all of the one's I've tried. (Beating out Chi, Loreal, Nexxus, Neutrogena, to name a few.) If your hair is actually damaged you're probably best staying on it. They have a cool tool you can use to help you pick, so who knows give it a try.
