His mum is head of Australian health or something, so she knows what she's talking about.

Basically stay away from sick people and wash your hands with soap if you want to live.

He's right though, seriously.
Washing your hands a dozen times a day (or even less) will greatly reduce your chance of getting it.
I spent half my life keeping disease out of my house for my brother, and nothing helped like hand washing.
Hand washing and hand sanitizer are your best friends.

Yeah, but go further then that.
After shaking hands, after waking up, after going outside, put hand sanitizer on when you come back to your car.
Little things like that easily save peoples lives.

how does that help?
create too sterile an environment and you begin to lose immunity

http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/swineflu_you.htm (a little Q and A about it).

Washing hands stops the spread, and it keeps it from getting in your system.
From what I read, no one is immune till after getting it and taking drugs for it, then it's still not very likely your going to be immune.
Germs spread so easily from human to human.
Coughing, sneezing, shaking hands, laughing, blowing a raspberry, kissing, hugging, the possibilities are endless.
I, for one, would prefer it if people who can potentially get the virus (everyone) kept their germs to themselves.
The washing hands kills bacteria, and it may just kill the bacteria that could give you the flu.

i was talking about regular germs

people who are excessively hygienic often have weaker immune systems

and arent bacteria and viruses different?

They are different, but they both take a toll on your immune system, and this virus going around is potentially life threatening (well.. more life threatening than normal colds and things).
And I'm not saying don't tough up your immune system, I'm saying if I were you, I wouldn't take a chance with this particular virus.

People are buying the wrong types of masks.
A construction worker's face mask isn't likely to help.
A Surgical mask on the other hand, might actually do some good.
When you walk into the ICU or PIKU units at a hospital, they make you wear masks so that your breath doesn't carry germs to the patient.

(And, dude, why Texas? Couldn't it have picked Alaska or something? I know too many people in Texas. )

No. I only read half of it, sorry.
But Jesus Christ, what the fuck would you do that for?
People are scared of this flu, but I'm more scared of the people who have no common sense.

Atleast some people in mexico are making some profit, seling face masks for £5 each, walking around the streets. mean people Twisted Evil

but we really cant avoid it now, i think it is defo going to become a pandemic, a school has just been closed in devon because of 1 girl catching it. if all it takes is 1 person in a school to close it, places are going to be shutting everywhere very soon.

Ehh, this scares me. T_T; We usually have quite a few people here that are sick, so I'm getting my mom to get a little bottle of germx for me. Especially since I have 3 computer classes. =|
