Poem guide

I put more value in "understandability" and flow than in rhyme and structure. OK, I'm Discordian, so I celebrate freedom and lack of structure, but the rule of Chaos Magick tells me to try everything. I'll be either using or inventing a structure soon, after I research the different types.

There are also plenty of professionals that experiment with structures and end up back at free verse, you know. Very Happy FNORD.

I don't agree with this. Poetry shouldn't "come from the heart", it should come from the mind. Poetry that is filled with nothing but emotion is nothing but annoying. It's akin to listening to someone you don't know rant about how much their life sucks.

I believe poetry should be built on technique. I doesn't matter what you have to say (whether it be love, pain, etc...) if you can't convey it well, the beauty is lost.

Poetry that provokes doesn't come from the heart, it comes from the poets understanding of technique and style.
I turn you to this quote:

"All bad poetry springs from genuine feeling" Oscar Wilde

i dont think you need imagination to write a poem, unless its not about you. i think in order for a person to write a poem they need to understand their emotions. They also need to know how to explain their emotions.
