Teasing hair

Teasing hair

by chelsiexcupcake on 04-24-2008 5:28 pm

1)
First, straighten your hair and all the layers.

2)
Take a section of layers at the crown of your hair and tease and backbrush it. Backbrushing is when you lift up a section of your hair and brush it from the tip towards your head, basically just combing it backwards.

3)
Once you're done backbrushing, spray some hairspray on that section of hair so it won't fall down.

4)
Do this to the rest of your hair except your front, where your bangs are. Be sure to tease it well.

5)
Once your done with all of that, lightly brush all the layers you teased/backbrushed so its not as ratty and tangled.

6)
Spray your whole head lightly with hairspray, and there you go.

Try using more hair spray?
Aussie freeze hair spray is the shizz =]

This is what i got off yahoo answers...
"Get 'What a Tease' by Big Sexy Hair....it works amazing! It lifts the root and holds it up basically until you wash your hair next"

"Use a product to lift your roots like a volumizing spray. Also, Aussie instant freeze is a really good hair spray. For teasing, i suggest aeresol. Spray it on after you tease. To get more volume, blowdry and straighten your hair upside down. Put the hairspray on upside down too and wait for it to dry, only a few seconds.

Make sure the tease gets all the way down to the roots, use a comb and press it down. Tease in small chunks because it is easier to get out and it holds up better."

P.S. by HelloShitty
I've said it before and I'll say it again - saltwater spray!
It's amazing for everyone who has soft hair who doesn't want to be teased. Saltwater spray makes your hair a little rougher and waaay easier to tease.
Try that before whining about how bad your hairspray is.

P.S. by PrettyOdd08
Also, if you have really thick hair, or a lot of hair, then you migth want to put half of you hair, or however much you think you need, into a ponytail. then tease the hair that's not in the ponytail. then after you teased the bottom part, let down the ponytail and tease the rest.

This is what i have to do becasue i've got a ton of hair and it's super thick!! lol

How To Get This Look: Big "Scene" Hair

by HelloKatie on 04-25-2008 2:51 am

Ok, so I pretty much love going in the fashion forums and giving people advice... But unfortunatly, I don't think anyone knows how to get the big "scene" hair look, hah. I've already written out how to do it in a few different topics, and there are so many others I haven't replied to. This is for everyone who is interested in getting this look. Smile

Variations

Warning... This isn't a very easy look to achieve if you're new to it. Like most looks, this takes a LOT of practice. I always say this in my tutorials, TRIAL & ERROR. Don't expect to get this look perfect for a long while and after a lot of practice. But, do not be discouraged if it looks bad one day, just try the next. Smile

Some things you'll need to get this look are:

A good freezing hair spray.
Mousse. (optional but recommended)
Teasing comb (recommended) or small tooth comb.
Hair brush.
Hair Straightener.
Extensions. (optional)
Whipped Wax (optional)

BEFORE YOU READ ON:

01. There are MANY MANY videos on youtube about how to tease your hair. Most of them are short and don't explain much, just showing how to do it. This tutorial is a detailed discription on how to do it. If you've watched some videos and think you understand it, you can just use this as a guideline, if you need it at all.
02. In order to get this style, you MUST have the right cut. If you don't have the right style for it (which is just many thinned, short layers) then this prolly won't look right no matter how many times you try it.
03. The girls in the top three pictures have extensions, so no, it is NOT their real hair. They prolly have a shorter-type hairstyle which enables them to tease it better. If you don't have extensions, your style prolly wont turn out exactly like theirs. But feel free to experiment and try what you can.

01. Products

You need freezing hair spray. Most of what I recommend are salon products, not "tested & recommended by salon professionals" products. lol. Bed Head and Big Sexy Hair are two that I recommend. Especially Big Sexy Hair, it has an alcohol base, which dries out you hair faster, so always condition, but because it has an alcohol base, it hold it better and longer... I'm sure there are other salon freezing sprays that will work just as well. I've also heard that the Aussie brand freezing hair spray works well too, although I've never used it. My only advisory is that some freezing sprays have a water base, which weigh down your hair and cause the style to fall out faster. Also, some tend to make your hair look dead and dry, just giving it a dull color. So be careful with that.
For mousse, I would recommend using the same brand as your hair spray. You don't have to, but it normally works better because they're meant to be used together. Example, if you use the Big Sexy Hair freezing spray, you should use the Big Sexy Hair mousse. Mousse isn't required but it's strongly recommended! It just gives your hair more volume, and volume is what this look is about.
A teasing comb is good here, although you can also use just a small toothed comb.
A brush is pretty self-explainatory.
I use Regis Salons Whipped Wax. It's good for spiking really short layers. This isn't needed for everyone.

02. Styling

I don't care what people say, wash your hair. It's disgusting to not wash it for days... After you hair is washed and CONDITIONED (always condition), pat your hair dry so it's not soaked. Apply mousse to your damp hair, especially at the roots and the short layers. Blow your hair dry away from your scalp for extra volume.

Next, with your hair dry, straighten ALL of it. Some people may say that straightening doesn't make a difference... They clearly don't know what they're talking about. Straighten it with a flat iron.

After it's straightened, take a chunk of hair that will be teased and hold it vertical from your head. Spray a little freezing spray at the roots and midway up the chunk of hair. Then TEASE. =D lol. You want to make sure the tease is tight and close to the root! Spray with your freezing spray. You don't really need to worry about in which direction it goes (although it's good to put it in the general sense...), you can style it at the end. Do the following step around your whole crown and everywhere else you would like it teased. Like I said, don't worry about styling individual pieces until you've done it all, it's just easier to style when the whole teasing step is complete. When this step is complete, you probably look like the Heat Miser from A Year Without A Santa Claus, haha. That's OK.

It's all pretty easy from there. Style the teased parts how you want them, make sure they blend into the parts that aren't teased! Otherwise, you can look really stupid. If it looks too messy on the top where it's visible and you would prefer it to look a bit more smooth (like in the first picture), take a brush and just evenly brush or comb out some of the tease on the top. Not so much as to flatten it! Just enough to make it smoother looking.
The style is your preference... Make it spiky and more defined, or make it more like a frizzy poof. It's all up to you! Just make you're when you're finished that you spray it with your freezing spray to hold the look.

Don't forget to do some touch-ups with your flat iron when your done!

03. Optional Step: Extensions

If you own extensions, then you should know how to put them in and what not. Put them in (if they're clip-ins or whatever) after you do the teasing step or at the end. Just make sure you blend it all together so it doesn't look stupid. lol.

04. Your Result

Of course your result should somewhat resemble the pictures. If it doesn't don't worry about it, try harder the next time. Haha.
Like I said, this takes A LOT of practice! Please don't get discouraged, you can always try again. Smile

HAVE FUN and GOOD LUCK!
I hope that I helped out a little! :]
If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a message, I'll try to help ya out!

BTW: These look like shit. These are how you don't want it to turn out.

You can also put in your extensions before you start teasing it. I always do that and I never get the 'extension-effect' that a lot of girls get (when you really can see that she has extensions). I kind of backcomb and tease it so it blends with my real hair and it works perfect for me.

Not really, if you have a ton of hair it's obviously going to take a long time.
It all depends on how much time you're willing to spend doing your hair. I can tease my hair and style it in 10 minutes. Now, after i got my hair thinned out a ton, it also only takes about 10-15 minutes. I'd rather wake up at 6:45 and do my hair and feel good about it, then wake up at 7:15 and my hair look bad and me be even more self conscience.

Try thinner layers when you tease it. And spray the roots and an inch or so past the roots. It helps. Tease, then let it dry then tease it a little more. :] It works for me and my hair is sooooper thick.
