This statement is wrong. I have a lot of older friends that say that if you go back ten years, they were EXACTLY the same as these so called emos. They are goths and punks.

to rockitemokid: i damn well know that emo is a genre of music. just like punk and goth. what are they named after? the music they listen to. thats what emos are, named after the music they listen to. you should know that, at least i should think so judging from your name.

to kittenskill: actually, scene came about as a result of the emo movement.
as for the second statement: goths are those who listen to gothic music who generally have a morbid and/or apathetic approach to life in general. punk on the other hand was a political movement that was anti-establishment and anti-government.

if we take the actual meaning of what these groups are about we see that both emo and scene are not anything like them save for the influence of their fashion.
