DIY T-Shirts

DIY T-Shirts

I saw these videos on hottopic.com, they're called Deconstruction with Elle. They're helpful videos for how to reconstruct a t-shirt. I could only find the written instructions for one of the videos, unfortunately.

How to make a muscle shirt

How to turn a t-shirt into a tube top:

This one is my favorite, how to make a corset tee:

Written instructions for this video:
Spoiler:
This one is constructed in phases. Here’s how it’s done:

Phase 1: Cap It

Step 1: Lay the tee flat.
Step 2: Cut the sleeves at an angle. Start at the armpit and cut upward and outward at a diagonal.

Note: Save those cut-off sleeves. You’ll need ‘em for Phase 2.
With this look, you’ve created a cute cap sleeve. Go to the next phase for a more detailed style.

Phase 2: Get the Scoop

Step 1: Lay tee flat.
Step 2: Cut the neck in a half circular pattern to create a scoop.
Step 3: At the top of each sleeve, cut a slit from the outside to the shoulder seam.
Step 4: Now, get your scrap sleeves from Phase 1. Cut two strips each about ¾” long then cut ‘em in half.
Step 5: Tie each strip around one of the newly cut slits at the sleeves to create a bow.

Now, those sleeves are dressed up and your neck exposed. Dare to go further? Check out the third and final phase to see how you can take this tee to the extreme for some ultra unique style.

Phase 3: Tie It Up

Step 1: Lay the tee flat.
Step 2: Cut off the bottom portion of the tee right along the seam then cut this strip in half.
Step 3: Turn the tee over.
Step 4: Grab your pencil and a ruler. Go to the middle of the back and up an inch or two. Measure approximately 6” in from the right and 6” in from the left. You’re gonna make a total of 12 marks (6 pairs) each about 1” long. There will be two columns and three rows.
Step 5: Take your scissors and pinch each mark to make your cuts.
Step 6: Take the bottom strip you cut off in Step 2 and thread it through your slits. It’s kinda like lacing a shoe.
Step 7: Show it off! Adjust the back corset-style lacing to fit.

Now, you’re ready for a new look as unique as you!

This is how to make your massive t shirt the right size.
It's a really good method which I use when I accidentally buy large t shirts at gigs.

I know a way to do it if you just want to make it tighter:
1. Turn it inside out
(If needed, try it on)
2. Put needles where you want to sew the seam (how tight it will be). Make sure the needles aren't in the same direction as the seam, because otherwise they might stuck in the sewing machine. See pic.
3. If you want/need to, make a line with a pen where the seam is going to be.
4. Sew an overlock seam (zick-zack or just a straight seam might work too, but the fabrics is stretchy and the seam might break when you stretch it) where you've put the needles.
5. Take off the needles.
6. Turn it inside out and enjoy your new skinny fit t-shirt! Very Happy

Please note that you don't have to sew in the sleeves too, just stop at the armpits.

I do this all the time, because I buy my tees in M (I'm a small girl, lol) because I want the lenght (but I still want them to be a bit tight).

How does that feel when you wear it?
Is the excess fabric now inside rubbing against you?
Or am I wrong?

No. If it's annoying, you could just cut it off (: (like 1 cm from the seam)
