it's so fking annoying how if anyone wear's eyeliner they go "haha look i'm emo today!" . they don't know it's about the music, they just think it's about being withdrawn and cutting yourself. I don't mind being considered one of the muso's though, which some people mistake for emo at my school.

Emo here, Is more of a taunt than it is an insult.
"Dude, don't do that! your gonna become one of those emus!" Is one I hear alot.
Yes. Emus. Except that in my town, there are loads of kids who are scene so we kind of over run the other people (FTW!).

Though where I live doesn't seem to have a lot of emos, one of my friends told me I was one..Which I think he meant in a good way. I've always actually wondered, is it the stereotypical emo that cuts him/herself or do most emos really do that? Which I realize I'm no different than any emo. Okay, everybody is different, like I don't cut I scratch my wrists and hands instead...Pain lasts longer, but that's not why I do it. I do it because I have a fascination with scars. I even caught myself thinking that I wished I had scars like The Joker in The Dark Knight. I've got issues, I've got emotions. I've always looked at emos with a fascination, never degradingly or condescendingly. I've been in touch with my emotions ever since my sister's death more than two years ago. ...Rambling...Sorry...My point is, most of my friends don't see emo as a bad thing at all, they don't even see emos as cutters probably, much less as always depressed. I admire emo. We're all okay here!

At my school the people in my class didn't even knew there was a subculture like emo.
They called my friend and I always gothic until whe said once we where emo.
(i wish we never did) then those anoying boys started to kinda bully us and called us wannabe emo, because suddenly we didn't know what emo was and they did, they said.
they said emo was cutting yourself and that you wanted to die, blablabla.
we tried to explain that it wasn't, but afcourse they wouldn't listen.
it was annoying, but we learned not to care a **** about what they said, and now they stopped, because we don't react and its not funny anymore.
I hate it when people say those stereotype things about emo and they know for one minute that emo excists

In our school.... Emo means being broken hearted and depressed.. But I know that emo doesn't mean anything like that... I hate it when they think about being emo is about negativity.

here,well if u hav cuts or sumthing(even though u did not intended 2 hav 1)they will all immediately tease you that your sucidal or sumthing...,and if your alone or crying...they'll tease you emo...haha!!i don't get them....why do they criticize us but the preps they don't??hahaha!!!hOW come they did not get the point that "EMO" IS A TYPE OF MUSIC????!!!!I KEEP XPLAINING TO MY SCHOOLMATES THAT IT'S a type of music so stop making fun of it but still...they won't listen....

that's pretty much what ppl think in my area too. and i agree with you, preps are dumb.
one girl in my class got really fed up with it because one day in science, one of the "gangsta preps" kept saying emo and all this stuff and making fun of it to one of her friends. so the girl who got fed up is just like "you don't have to cut yourself to be emo and you can wear colors." (she said it in a really strained, pissed off voice. it was kinda scary since i was sittin' right next to her)
i hate those ppl who use emo in a bad way.
