Good Recipes?

by foolinaround on 07-22-2008 10:28 am

First of all, I am a terrible cook, so these had better be easy recipes lol

What are your favorite dishes? I'm looking for something to make for dinner tonight. I'm talking about actually making something, hamburger helper doesn't count.

I don't know whats in your fridge and cupboards. Did you have anything in mind? Like chicken based? Beef based? Vegetarian? Pasta? Do you like Italian? Asian?

I've got to go to the grocery store, so ingredients aren't really a problem. I like pretty much all types of food, just not spaghetti or corn. I would rather have some meat in it as well.

Garlic and Rosemary Chicken

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
4 chopped garlic cloves
1/4 dried rosemary
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons water

Heat oven to 375F. Rub garlic into both sides of the chicken breasts and place into glass baking dish. Sprinkle rosemary, water, and lemon juice over the chicken breasts and cover dish in foil. Place in oven and bake for 25 minutes or until chicken thoroughly cooked. Don't overbake the chicken or it will turn out dry.

I recommend you serve this with parsleyed red potatoes and a green vegetable or a rice pilaf, which you can get in a box.

Umm instead of telling you recipes I'll tell you how to pick a recipe (it's sort of like a teach a man to fish thing):

How to pick a recipe:

-Look at the ingredients
Decide what kind of things you like to eat, if you see a bunch of them in a recipe you're probably going to like the result. (This goes the other way also, if you hate something and see it in a recipe avoid it.)

-Look at method of preparation
Don't know how a particular technique is done or the method of preparation is not to your liking? Skip it, or try learning how to cook (and like) that method of preparation.

-Consider Substitutions
Hate something about a recipe, change it. Do something that will taste better (or will be easier to make.)

-Consider Other Details
Remember things like proportions, cost, prep and cook times, and cooking tool requirements when selecting a recipe otherwise you may find yourself stuck.

One more note: Always read the entire recipe from start to finish before cooking it.
