He used to paint in colours
Especially fond of blue
He used to paint in colours
And his colours they were true

Silver, pink and gold

Now his hands are old and tired
And his eyes are tired too
The red's confused with orange
And the green is wrong with blue

He used to paint in colours
'Cause colours they were true

He used to paint the whole night through

They said his work is childlike
I'd take that as a compliment
He stroked the canvas boldly
Like an angel heaven sent

Now his mind is gone
And his portraits cold and stark
His days are long
And the colours have since gone
