HOW TO: Razor/Thin/Layer Hair with a razor (with video)

Please tell me if you see any errors in the wiki.

This is a guide to cutting hair with a razor. I've been doing this for a while now and I'm completely satisfied with the results. I do warn you, since you are not a professional (neither am I), you might ???? up and mess up your hair. In the end, I really don't care so don't whine to me about it, since I gave you are warning.

Fundamentals
I just use a teen `stache razor.

Please, do this in a bath tub, or over a sink since it’s really annoying cleaning up hair. I’m saving you trouble and telling you now.
Have your hair straightend.

Step one: Find the hair you want to cut
-Probably the hardest part is this step. My best bet is that you are trying to grow out your fringe/bangs and you want the top and back shortened. Make sure you have enough hair to cut, since it would be stupid to cut nothing...You also want to have all your hair straightened. Find the hair you want and grab a piece of it. What I do is, get the hair that I think makes my hair poofy.

Step Two: Cutting and prerequisites
You shouldn't be too scared since this is the emo forum and most of you are familiar with razors (just kidding), I hope most of you know how one works. Normally, there's hair on your face and you shave that (hopefully) which usual notion of shaving facial hair is going down your face with the razor. It is the same with hair on top of your head. The annoying part is that you must have something supporting the hair on the other side. You want to get the hair you want cut, put your fingers on that and then all of that on the razor. Pull down.

Step three: Getting faster
From what you are reading by now, you are thinking “OMG THIS IS GOING TO TAKE FOREVERRRR,” when in reality; it takes me about 10 minutes to get a good trim. The thing is, you think your cutting a ???? load of hair, but your not. So if you go a bit random with the cutting, I don’t think it can affect your hair much (especially if you’re not doing anything with your bangs). When you get used to your finger, hair and a razor together, you will easily get the hang of it. The back is super easy since most of us spike it, but mine is a bit hard because I have a small mullet. Nonetheless, with a bit of practice you can get pretty fast.

Video
The video shows the steps in a pretty brief way. I did not get too detailed in the video because I suck at video making. I just needed a trim and felt that I might show people how I cut my hair. BTW, don’t mind the tiredness, I’m always tired.

does that actually cut the hair, or does it just thin it out?

like in other words does it lose any legnth?

if so,
do you know of any ways to thin hair without losing any length

Just did this a few days ago, and it looks flippen sweet.

I used it mostly to take a lot of weight out of my hair and thin it out. The end result is definately worthy of doing this again when I need another haircut.

You can do both, if you don't want to lose length, but want to thin it out, just don't razor the ends Very Happy

But try not to scratch your head, I did that once, it hurt REALLY bad. ow.

That's why you don't push down so hard deary.

I tried this last night cus the ppl at the salon didn't cut it right Rolling Eyes

It worked out pretty well, though i'll probably end up buying a hair razor.

I did it in meh room. It didn't make a GIANT mess, but i would recommend having a trash can around.
