but emo has evolved... 'cuz everything you said is what emo started as... but now, emo is more then just that... it's kinda a group of ppl... kinda like preps, and chavs, and goths, but we're just... emos...
hmm i can't agree with you, emo is a hype it will last on for a while but after that it will be like back in the beginning..
yes i agree. people are MAKING it a group of people. its like fucking brainwash or something and people just like..eat it up -.-

I wonder.. Despite emo being the music and scene being the fashion, one can still argue that there is some sort of.. 'mentality' that comes with the style. I'd like to think so >sometimes<; that there is something more to scene/'emo' than just the fashion and the music (otherwise it would be a rather shallow subculture, right?). However, if there truly is such a "mentality", it should NOT be associated with depression, self-pity and regret, which many thinks of when they hear the word emo. That's just shit. I guess you could say it should focus on expressing ones emotions (naturally and socially) and... philosophizing? Yep, maybe.
It should contrast to the otherwise harsh and somewhat 'raw' hardcore punk subculture (don't forget that emos/scenesters are actually punks).
i think you are right.
for one, people have the wrong idea about "emo". like you said "depression, self-pity and regret, which many thinks of when they hear the word emo."
that IS shit.
i think emo culture does have a mentality. at least most of it, i am hoping.
but if it was to be based on a mentality..it should be nothing more or less then being a....a "deeper" person. someone that thinks beyond just the surface and digs into what something truly is. And maybe those things DO have tyo do with depression. and maybe people just dont want to hear the truth..they dont want to face it? i dont really know its just a thought.
but think about it. there has to be a mentality somewhere. look at the genre of music? thats where it originally came from anyways right? and what is it? EMOTIONAL hardcore. meaning we are EXPRESSING our thoughts, feelings, emotions. We think beyond the obvious and go into a worls most people never dare to see.
now what the people around us has made out of it...well..they raped it and made it into the opposite. they made it Materialism -.-
which isnt what it was about...but i know myself. and i know the kind of music i listen to. i know a lot of people too. and they are "deep" people. "deep" thinkers. philosophers. where you can have REAL conversations like adults.
like this one for example![]()
thats just my little tid bit..:]
xxx
oh, you're so right about that
I hope media and people won't continue picking on what they >think< emo is.
thank you all for discussing, and agreeing on the subject ^^ really appreciate it.
emo-hXc ftw. amen.

Well this should be helpful to the posers
"There's nothing here to take for granted
With each breath that we take
The hands of time strip youth from our bodies,
And we fade,
Memories remain,
As time goes on"

i dont think so...
if you stop dressing 'scene' you just wont be scene anymore..
but you will still remain the same person ... you listen to emo, you are still emo.. its just your fashion, your outside that have changed and since many believe emo is a state of mind, if you believe it too, you will remain the person your are.. and soon or later.. many emo kids will stop dressing scene at a certain age.. but their passion for emo will never change.. will never cease to exist within them

AGAIN, we're talking about the correct definition. honestly, 'own definition'? sorry, but most of those are just poser crap. just read the wikipedia article plx.
(yes I know, it's a lot easier to just swallow what other people and media tell you than to read the wikipedia article).

that's true. yeah I remember when it was like that ^^ now it's all correct though, since it was changed to 'Emo (music genre)'. btw, the list of emo bands there is great (but not really complete).
