You aren't really emo by choice, normally to be emo you get called emo therefore appearance is crucial. I disagree with this though, i think people can be whatever they like, however they want to be.
But to a certain extent i agree that you need to look emo to be it. It's sort of like, you can't be a jock if you're a weasly 4-foot tall kid with huge ass glasses.
I'm supposing you don't want to change your hair and were just asking an opinion?
Well, im not going to be that simple, i'll give you hair tips, too!
If you're happy with your curly hair i say embrace it~ But why not do something outrageous? Bleach it, streak it, dye it -whatever. Hair is your greatest accessory, so go crazy~
If you don't already use an anti-frizz shampoo then i'd suggest it, to control frizz. I myself have curly hair, but i straighten it =/ If you're going to start straightening then i'd suggest you invest in some thermal conditioners, to protect your hair from going dry and breaking after straighening.
If you're unhappy with curly hair you could always look into permanent straightening.
I find that an effective curly-hair look is when you get a straight fringe and then leave the rest curly. It's adorable, easy to maintain and looks good on all face shapes. It works well with bleached hair or brown hair with blonde highlights.
