It was okay, but it could have been better.
You could have put more qoutes in from Sands and maybe some hiphop lyrics to really hit the mark on how violent they are.

My school told my parents I was emo and that they should keep an eye on me because of how emo's self harm and alot of the emotion comes from lyrics and children wanting to do as songs say etc...
My parents replied with 'your school moto is 'learning to lead our lives' yet you control the kids, each person is induvidual and has a right to do and be what they want, if you didnt hassle the kids so much and let them have more say on what they do maybe they wouldnt self harm and tbh i dont see how you can say only emo's self harm as any can, have and will continue to, although its not right i believe you judging the children makes them feel disgust on how you tell them what is right and wrong yet do it yourself, you also make comments on there appearence yet your uniform is black and just because someone has there hair cut or spiked differently doesnt make it wrong. are emo's the one who carry knives and have people singing to them about obscene behaviour, My daughter listens to the music she was brought up listening to and i personally dont think you my music makes me sad, it makes me want to get up and do something productive.

I have something to add if the "emo" style is blamed for suicides why is it that Akon and 50 Cent aren't blamed for rapes, sexual assaults and shootings ? I mean seriously if Miss Sarah Sands wants to start bashing styles she might as well do it to ALL of them, right ? And I understand where people come from in wanting to take their own life and I know that they are being selfish to others, but isn't it selfish for people to not let someone commit suicide because they CAN'T take the shit going on in the world ? But with the rapes, it's not like people just rape once and then they are done raping, NO they rape and rape and rape again, and well they leave the person with internal scars and those scars don't go away so easily. That's quite ruthless, don't you think ?
The curtains have nothing to do with the "emo" style. I mean I open my curtains and people call me "emo". I open my curtains because it shows me that I have lived another day in this absolute hell hole called earth and that I WILL survive another day if I survived yesterday. I mean like my step-parents aren't "emo" or "gothic" and they don't open their curtains one day a year.
And the bands MCR and Green Day have nothing to do with people committing suicide, because the song "Famous Last Words" says "I am not afraid to keep on living" How the fuck can she compare that to that some by "Adam And Andrew" called "Dear Diary". Those people have some serious issues. (Meaning the people who wrote the song)
And she said "dyed black hair, brushed over your face, layering, black, black, black" First of all all styles have a "trademark colour" (rap for instance = gold) but correct me if I'm wrong, I don't see a lot of "emos" with pitch black hair, normally they have different colours, no ?
Okay and last thing I promise. If someone says "I am emo", that doesn't make sense, it's like saying "I am rap" or "I am rock" and that does not make sense. Every type of music has a style and there's nothing you can do about that.

Yeah, wonderful article. You should definitely say more about the emo/hip-hop debate. I think you are right that hip-hop and rap are WAY more violent than emo music is.
