I'm not sure if they do or not. I grew up with a disabled relative and people were always extra nice to him.
If someone's mean to a handicapped person that pretty much labels them as an asshole instantly.
I don't look down on people with disabilities, if anything I give them far more leniency than a "normal" person.
I do admit to using the term "retard" as a derogatory though. I only use that for "normal" people who are acting stupid, never for someone who has an actual disability.

yeah... It just seems like people with disabilities get looked down upon most the time.. I mean, I, myself do not look down upon them.. Most of them are like uber friendly, and always so happy. and I also use the term "Retard" to my friends, but I wouldnt use it in a labelling or mean way towards one with a disability..

Looks like we pretty much agree.
Do you know a lot of people who are mean to handicapped people or something though?
I guess sometimes there are jokes that are harsh at their expense.

I don't look down on people that have disabilities.
I've grown up around people who have minor to severe disabilities.
I don't know why some people look down on people with disabilities.
It's not like that person can help the fact they're disabled, they didn't choose to be that way.
I try to treat everyone the same.
Just because you have a disability doesn't mean you shouldn't be treated like any other person who is perfectly healthy.

yeah there are a lot of jokes and I guess I just feel bad,,
I am the type of person that treats everyone equally, unless an individual person gives me a reason to treat them differently.. but I dont really know people specifically that are cruel to people with disabilities, but I live in MN which is a state where people are very judgmental and Stereotypical... and just cruel to people that arent "Normal" in general..

RE: Mental Disabilities
the only reason they look down on them is because there difrent and humans are funny and fear whats diffrent or out of the norm.
but little kids dont do that.
my older sister invited a freind over some time before i was born.
she had no arms or legs.
my mom was just a little shocked that beth hadnt told her that she had no arms and legs and so she asked her
beth said well it never acured to me that that mattered and i dont think about her not haveing arms and legs much.
if we were all like children the world would be a better place....

yea i call people retards all the time...however i dont consider disabled people to be retarded...i grew up with people who had a range of dissabilities...i treat them all the same...just like everyone else...
...however one funny story...my best friend (at the time)...her pop was at her house, he has a fake leg, he was walking up the stairs and had heaps of shopping bags...so as i say to everyone when they are carrying something i asked if he wanted help (im just polite like that)...he turned around and snapped at me cause he thought it was to do with his leg lol...my friend just said to ignore it

People (assholes) who look down on handicapped people because they are seen as inferior. Not as good as them. Abnormal, etc.
It's a very sad thing, but people are cruel. I've seen grown adults snicker at a mentally retarded child's expense.

Um, do you know ants KILL their crippled comrades? I tried it dismembering ants and returning them to their colonies once... It was beautiful.
Killing the flawed is an efficient way for society to progress. We should be as red as ants.

People are more complicated than ants and thus have more flaws..... Everyone is flawed in some way.
What do you envision society to progress to? Cold and compassionless? I don't see that as an improvement.
It will make our existence more difficult overall.

Unlike ants, people are arrogant and cocky as to think about "sanctity of human life".
Why should we spare the inefficient? What do you want, decadence or progress?

Do we really? You have already pointed out the brutalization and murder of our domestic brethren, even those in perfect health.

It depends on what your definition of progress is. Do you intend this as a means to an ultimate end?

I have a mental dissability.
People laugh and stare. It happens. They are rude.
There isn't anything funny or bad about a person with a mental dissability. They are just a little different. Everyone is different.
I admit to using the word retard myself. I have been called a retard too.
I never use the term"retard" to describe a mentally disabled person. Only with friends jokingly.

I think that people who look down on mental disabilities need a sharp kick up the balls.
They don't know what it's like to be that person.
That person didn't ASK for a mental disability.
Would you laugh at someone on their death bed because their sick?
I think not.
Respect other peoples lives, and I don't want to hear any bull about how 'but they DO have a mental disability. Their brain is damaged, they can't tell if I insult them or not!'
Because they can.
Their not stupid, Their brains are still intact, maybe damaged, but their still there.
They hear you, they see you, they have the ability to love, and to feel hurt or angry.
Just don't make fun, because it's not fun at all.
(I'm rather passionate about Mental disabilities and Special needs if you didn't notice)
(I'm referring to extreme cases here, if its a mild disability, use your brains people they OBVIOUSLY register everything you say)
