MCR is whiney pop-punk; always has been, and most likely always will be. They are not even close to being emo. MTV has never played punk, emo or skrams music, and never will, purely because it isn't mainstream.
Listen to bands such as Moss Icon, Comadre, La Quiete, Toru Okada and compare them with the bands most of you think are emo; I'm sure you'll notice quite the difference.

I find it weird how gothic they dress on stage and how their music doesn't match. They're music is more rock then anything. Just plain rock, no emo crap.
You're so pretty when you're unfaithful to me

That "whiney" really wasn't necessary...Squire wrote: MCR is whiney pop-punk
I don't get the problem? Do they have to dress in a certain way in correlation to the music they're making? What the fuck does it matter?
Let people call them emo - there will always be ignorants.
It's about the music. Whether you like it or not. That's all that matters. Whether they are played on MTV, whether they dress black and wear eyeliner, whether others also listen to it or not, whether people call them emo - you shouldn't care.
And btw, I think there's already a topic like this.

Yeah, it was.

There's an MCR topic for every page in the bands & music section. People need to use the handy dandy
I dislike MCR. They're music isn't my style, and I hate how some MCR fans think they're better than others because they like their earlier albums rather than their later ones. They all sound the same to me, so I can't really give my two cents on that.
I don't believe that they're emo, nor do I really care.

I noticed that, too.Bug wrote: and I hate how some MCR fans think they're better than others because they like their earlier albums rather than their later ones.
I guess it's the "I like them before they became famous - and you people who like the new stuff are only posers" attitude. Happens a lot. With all kinds of things/trends.
And don't blame the band for the fans.

L: Most pop-punk and pop-rock songs consist of 'whiney teenage angst' filled lyrics.
I am not saying nobody can like them, I just wan't people to label them correctly. Emo is a genre that I like, and I think it's a real shame how much it has been bastardised by MTV, thanks to bands like Jimmy Eat World. Today, the majority think bands such as Hawthorne Heights with their sappy 'cut mah wrist whine whine whine baaaw'-lyris are emo, since to them, emo equals emotional.
Emo stands for emotive charged hardcore punk, and it has nothing to do with depression, self-mutilation or any of that. I really dislike the people who push forward the idea of emo being a subculture, because it is clear they know nothing, and most of them are not willing to learn. As you might have noticed, ignorance is a quality I despise.
