It should never have come to this...

This is my poem titled Moving On. I hope some of you like it or can at least relate. Comments are greatly appreciated because I may need to turn this in for my English 201 class.


I remember us back then
Spending hours gazing up at the stars.
We saw our future in our eyes
Collecting fireflies in our jars.
We were living the dream.
Two kids on the run.
But what happened next
Should never have come.
He came out of nowhere
Yet it was right under my nose.
We were the best of friends,
Like brothers, I suppose.
A knife in the back,
It was a covert attack.
Now my sky isn’t as bright
As that one starry night.
I knew we weren’t forever.
Don’t think me naïve.
But did you see this coming?
Were there tricks up your sleeve?
We could’ve had so much.
I would have given you the moon.
How could you leave me for him?
It all happened too soon.
I guess it goes to show
That life is unfair.
Now I have nothing but time on my hands,
And there’s so much to spare.
But don’t worry about me,
You know I’ll be fine.
Just not right now.
Just give me some time.
So thanks for the memories.
We had some fun.
I’m closing our book,
I’ve read it, I’m done.
