ok this is tricky as i dont know ur mum. it would be helpful if u could say why u became emo in the first place so that way u could decide how to tell ur mum y u are emo...

my situation: my mum thinks "emo" is just a fashion thing ie black clothes, looking depressed blah blah. she knows about emos only from what i have told her. She has no idea about the darker side of it so to speak ie music lyrics, saddness associataed etc. i prefer not to tell her this but i am 18 and can think more clearly and for myself than a 13 yr old. no offence. therefore i would ask ur mum what she already knows about emos in the first place and take it from there.

hope this helps

No offense, but seriously, why would you tell her at all?
that's like saying, "hey mom, i'm a prep. i hope you still love me!"

I would say only tell her if she asks.
And it really depends on your "version" of emo.
Do you mean cutting and being depressed?
or
Dressing, listening, and doing other "emo" things?
I could help better if you gave me a clear idea..

oh lord.
seriously, you don't have to tell her
Dx

it's not like comeing out of the closet, or saying that your on drugs- it isnt any type of sin Mad

but if you are still determend to let her know, show her what you like. she will get it.
hopefully. then you can lay it on tnik and give her the dictionary description.

i would NEVER on any terms tell my mom i am emo. she doesnt even know what emo is. she just thinks im in a phase of black clothes and sad songs and i'd rather keep it that way. why would u want 2 tell her at all?

    1. Open Wikipedia.
    2. Search for "teenage pregnancy".
    3. Search for "drug dealing".
    4. Look at yourself.

Unless you've gotten someone pregnant, managed to get tied up with substance abuse or are inflicting harm upon yourself in one way or another then you don't need to say anything. Telling your mother that you come under a label isn't important, but it isn't something that needs to be tiptoed around either. Most guys won't tell their parents that they're out getting drunk every weekend, and most girls won't tell their parents that they've lost their virginity. Unless it is something severe, you're allowed to be a little superstitious around your Mom. It isn't a requirement to be an open book, and mentioning small facts here and there isn't important. If you're "emo", fine, go ahead with your life normally. It's not as if there is something wrong being under the label.

My parents worked out easily enough the sort of things I was into. It's actually my Mom who finds a lot of the clothes sites I use and bought me black nail polish without me even mentioning an interest in it. You may think that adults are oblivious, but they're a lot smarter than you think. They just keep what they notice quiet unless they're concerned.

If you really do want to mention it to her (which in all honesty I think is a peculiar thing to say) then just come out with it. Does she know what the stereotype is? If it's negative things she knows then explain to her what it is that makes you define yourself as "emo", and try to change her opinion of it. If she knows nothing, be selective in your use of facts. Don't give her anything to fret over, and everything should go okay.
Don't tell me you agree with me when I saw you kicking dirt in my eye.

whaaaat, now I'm a little embarrassed. why would it matter to her how you dress/look and what music you listen to? she's your MOM. I mean, this sounds more like coming out of the closet or sumthing.

if you mean such things as cutting and being depressed (which does not belong to the real style, but anyways), it's another thing. as always, people should wait until they're at least 15 before they get into the scene ("emo") style. it seems to go wrong a lot too often..

Bye emo do you mean depresed, cutting, or what. What I did to tell my mom I am "Sad most of the time" is write it down, easier. I asked to go to therepy, my parents are too worried about what it will make them look like... Just becuase I don't cut, or do drugs, or any thing dosen't mean I Dosen't have issues...
