God: The World's Greatest Placebo.
God: The World's Greatest Placebo.
Now apparently, I drew awe from my friends when I said that God was the world's greatest placebo. Because you know, he is. Why is he a Placebo? An entity no one knows about, all powerful, omniscient in every way a simple "sugar pill" for those who need it? I think it makes sense. Think about it. How many people claim they've found God after some traumatic event? How many people find they have the confidence and fortitude to overcome obstacle like alcoholism when they put their faith in God? How many people can endure more of a prolonged problem when they have faith? Many? hrm, yeah. Sounds like it could easily be psychological, yes? Now, many Christian users will use these to their advantage, but since there isn't proof that God exists, and the Placebo Effect is a concretely proven and widely used psychological method, I'm just going to use that to shut your ass up. The more you think the more sense it will make: God is just the world's greatest placebo. An image for people to go to to find solace and happiness under. Yeah. A hay-penny for your thoughts?

Been believing this for quite a while.
Some people simply seem to need religion to cope with life, or their sicknesses/disabilities.

If belief in God is making your life better, I have no complaints.

Yup. At first he was to control the masses, now he is just used so people think they have someone to save them.ZRC wrote: An image for people to go to to find solace and happiness under.
When people do go through a tradgey, they seem to try and seek God and become closer to him for whatever reason. I tried but the whole time I just felt like it was fucking useless, it's too sketchy to be real.

This.
I work at a Christian bookstore, and I've seen people who have miserable lives, and their belief in God seems to help them get through. As long as they're not harming anyone with that belief, I think it's a'ight.
Though there are better ways to feel better :\

Yeah, which means for the most part, Religion is a control method. If you do anything that's even mildly socially unacceptable, you gain a rung in the rings of hell. Gluttony? Greed? You can go to hell for being angry? Are you fucking serious? Honestly, if it worked wholly, everyone would be like Jehovah's Witnesses. There would be no conflict, no transgressions. Theoretically, it could work, but that would remove the wonders of conflict, sex, and all that stuff from the world.

Not to mention it would be the wrong type of motivation. Through misinformation.

I believe in the placebo effect.
If I want a god, I'll believe in one.
And if I want to be god, I'll believe in myself.
That's all it takes to rule the world.

No, it may seem weak to some people, but everyone needs something there to depends on.
If they don't have that outlet, they are weak.
