My favorite poet is Edgar Allen Poe.
My favorite poem is as following:
Sometimes I ponder about what will come next
Where will my life turn when it seems to stall?
When is the next time I will smile again?
and how will I get up, should I fall?
Happiness fills me with a touch of sadness.
By that I mean I know it can't last.
Beauty decays, laughter subsides
When will the stones be cast?
Tragedy can be measured
by the amount of happiness taken away
Elusion is our only protection
As we fall victim to its prey
So when I've reached a fork in life's road
and the choices are many or few.
I follow the one that leads away from misfortune
Thats all I can really do
When life is good
You have to hold it in your hand
You have to close your eyes
You have to breathe it in!
Happiness may end
While tragedy begins
Today is the beginning
Is tomorrow the end?

A Dream Within A Dream
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow—
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
(Yet if hope has flown away)
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep--while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
-Edgar Allan Poe (1849)

Best Poets/ Poems
Death bitter-sweet death
Thief! you take my dearest away
And leave me suffering alone and far from her
Death bitter-sweet death
Did you hate her alive?
Now you are satisfided from this bite
I will survive without her love
You move silently like an animal
But my curse drives you to me
But above the clouds
Or under the sea
Behind all your sins
I will find you!
But above the Heavens
And underneath the Earth
In your Hell
You will not be safe!
Death terrible death
We were two - but only one heart
We shared love, we shared pain
Death terrible death
The weight of sorrow suffocates me
I will find her to the end
And I will curse you to live
You creep silently like an animal
My curse leads me to you..
Now you are full from this bite
But soon, you will have to share my suffering..

Shel Silverstein and Theodore Suess Geisel. And props to curious for mentioning T.S., it's sad that there aren't a lot of fans of him.

Theodore Suess Geisel and Aleister Crowley. Both are excellent, and Crowley has some cool stuff. Edgar Allen Poe is up there though.
