LISEY'S STORY
by: Stephen King

Lisey Debusher Landon , widow of famous author Scott Landon, is trying to cope with alot after her husband's death two years ago. They had been married for twenty five years. Now all that's left is the papers, magazine articles, and other memorablilia left in Scott's office. While there are professors and other people {from the college where Scott taught English} who constantly keep contacting her wanting to get ahold of his papers, she refuses to let anybody go through them but herself and her sister, Amanda.
Lisey has plenty to deal with when it comes to her sister Amanda. Amanda has mental problems, possibly triggered by the fact that her long time boyfriend left her unexpectedly to go marry another. She goes into states of excitability, which then leads to hysteria, and eventually she ends up cutting herself with many sharp objects{also known as self-mutilation} Often, Lisey has to watch Amanda for a few days after these bouts, to prevent her from making any more cuts into her already scarred body.
Besides watching Amanda, Lisey spends all her time in what used to be Scott's office, looking through his things. Often she goes into a trance from the flashback, and talks to his memory which appears to speak back to her. Among the flashbacks is the night that Scott was shot at the Shipman Library Commencement, by a man named Gerd Allen Cole. Scott had taken two bullets, one to the lung and one to the heart , and later died in the hospital. Often Lisey will wake up in the middle of the night, repeating bits of their last conversation over and over to herself.
One day Lisey gets a phone call from a man going by the nemesis of Zack McCool. He wishes to look through Scott's papers, in the hopes of possibly finding some sort of unfinished, unpublished novel. However, Lisey refuses, and Zack tells her that this is not the last she will hear from him, and threatens to sexually assault her if she does not eventually let him go through Scott's papers.
A few days later, Zack harrasses Lisey again, this time with a note and a dead barn cat in her mailbox. The number on the note connects her to Professor Woodbody, one of the main people who have harrassed her in the past. Woodbody tells her that Zack McCool's real name is James "Jim" Dooley, and Woodbody hastily promises that he will deal with him. However, that night a car appears in her yard, and a strange man carrying a suitcase emerges. But, because it is dark, Lisey cannot see his face, and he disappears into the shadows. Lisey becomes terrified, as she is the only one living in the house and can do little to defend herself.
Once the car leaves, Lisey goes to call the cops. But they do little to help her besides getting rid of the dead cat and periodically checking up on her to make sure nothing is going wrong. For awhile, however, it seems to be working.
By this time Amanda has gone into another one of her depressive bouts of self-mutilation, and Lisey and her other sister, Darcy, decide to take her to a sort of rehabilitation center. However, Amanda only seems to worsen, going into a state of unresponsiveness, even though she is completely conscious.
As if this is not enough, Jim starts calling Lisey again, then appears at her house with a gun.
Scott and his brother Paul were very close as young boys, often spending their days together. Paul would create a kind of scavenger hunt for Scott, which they called a "bool-hunt". He left clues, which he called stations of the bool. At the end of the hunt, there would be some sort of prize, such as a candy bar or a soda.
However, it was much different when their father was home.Their father would create the bool-hunt and Paul and Scott would have to try and solve it. Often though, during these, either Paul or Scott would end up being cut with their father's knife. However, they still believed their father loved them, for at the end of these"blood-bools", his prize was a kiss. And when their father was not around, the boys would go to their special place called Boo'ya Moon. Here they could go to heal their wounds, both physical and emotional.
Eventually, though, Paul started developing mental problems of his own. His father believed that their was too much bad-gunky in Paul and that he could not get rid of it simply by cutting it out of him. Paul slowly went mad, acting savage and animal-like. Their father chained Paul up in the cellar, afraid that Paul would hurt him and Scott. For the next three weeks, Paul became more and more wolf-like in behavior, and he was treated thus so, living in his own waste and being fed every so often. Neither one of them came within reaching distance of Paul, lest they be killed.
Scott wanted to take Paul to Boo'ya Moon to see if he could make him better. But in order for him to take him there, he would have to be able to touch him. Their father knocked Paul out by means of a long board so that Scott could get close to Paul without being killed. However, Scott's attempts were worthless, and he was forced to give up. Eventually, thier father shot Paul with his .30-06 deer gun, killing him. Scott took Paul to Boo'ya moon and buried him under their favorite tree.
Eventually, Scott's father fell into a deep depression. One morning, Scott finds his dad asleep with a pick-axe and a note beside him that reads kill me, then put me with Paul, please. Scott kills his father with the pick-axe, out of love and mercy. But he cannot take his father to Boo'ya Moon, and buries him in thier yard. Scott is eventually sent to a foster home, for he has told people that his brother and his father ran off and left him.
Lisey goes to Boo'ya Moon to heal her own wounds left by Jim, then goes to the rehab center to visit Amanda. She is able to take Amanda back to her home, and that night she takes Amanda to Boo'ya Moon.
Amanda returns to her old-self, and Lisey and Amanda devise a plan to be rid of Jim Dooley. They head back for Lisey's house. When they get there, they find an apology card in Lisey's mailbox, addressed to Amanda and from her ex-boyfriend, asking her if they can be friends again. Amanda just laughs, deciding that he doesn't matter to her anymore, and that her days of self-mutilation are over. The sisters go inside Lisey's house and wait for him to arrive at the specified time he had earlier promised.
Jim arrives, and Lisey and Amanda attempt to call the police while they are hiding. However, Jim cuts the phone line before they get through. Next the lights go out, and Lisey and Amanda are in a dark room with Jim. Jim attempts to rape Lisey, and Amanda tries to fight him off. However, Lisey acts calmly and pretends to be willing to go along with Jim's requests, to keep him from trying to hurt her or her sister. She takes all three of them to Boo'ya Moon, and Jim chases Lisey and Amanda through the forest. However, it is night on Boo'ya Moon, and there is a dangerous, evil being that roams the forest at night. It is the evil being that kills Jim, and Lisey and Amanda return home.
That night, Lisey goes back to Boo'ya Moon by herself and finds a letter Scott left her before he died. The letter ends with the words everything the same, which was what Scott had always told Lisey to get her through the hard times, and meant that everything would be okay, everything was alright. It is this letter that brings Lisey a sense of peace with herself and enables her to accept Scott's death.
