If your ideals of 'emo' are being different and letting your emotions guide you then you have no idea what your talking about. How is dressing exactly like others, and doing everything in an almost exact fashion, being unique? It's called conformity. Conforming to a set of invisible guidelines and letting them control who you are.
Your letting the stereotype control and shape you. You cannot be 'emotive hardcore' because it's a kind of music that died along time ago. Look at most bands considered 'emo' you'd be extremely hard pressed to find any of those members consider themselves, or their music, 'emo'. Most people strive to follow these guidelines and thats what fucks everything up. It pisses me off that kids want to conform so closely and look just like everybody else. People so brainwashed that they want to 'learn to be emo' and the shitty advice given is to act depressed, dye and fringe your hair, and wear tight band shirts and even tighter pants.
What are you going to get out of assimilating and losing your identity? The acceptance of others? Why don't you try to get along with others by not judging them and getting to know everyone. Not everyone has great lives, and loves it every second. I know a 'jock' kid that hates his life and it's deeply more personal and heartbreaking than what any of you go through. Most people hide their emotions so you don't get to see their deeply personal side.
I'll admit that 'being scene' gets a bad wrap for things like guys wearing tight jeans and wearing makeup. But do you think that most people would care if each one of those people were extremely nice and didn't judge others? Some people would, but a lot of the hate has to do with the personality. 'Being pussified'. Because while it's good to be deeply emotional, theres a line between being in touch with your softer side, and full blown lack of resielency.
Stop bitching, stop crying and fucking deal. Peoples problem isn't that your life sucks, it's the fact that it doesn't, others have it way worse, and you need to FUCKING DEAL. 'Omfg my life sucks, I have no friends and I'm so fat so I cut myself to feel alive'. Well TRY. I doubt someone can be so hated that no one will want to befriend them. Maybe it's not others, maybe IT'S YOU. It's these kinds of people that rape the concept of alternative lifestyles. You world needs to be way more understanding, I'll agree with that, BUT SO DO YOU.
Things that other people don't understand because it's ridiculous:
Cutting: Why? Because it's fucking self mutilation. Your causing harm to yourself and it's not helping anything. You can deal with your problems in more healthy ways.
Excessive emotional issues: Why? Because you need to deal, everyone else does, and so do you. Your life doesn't really fucking suck. Starving children in africa are more fucking happy than you.
Makeup on guys: Why? Because todays society has created the notion that it's what women do. The 80's changed this, but it was still over the top and generally not 'normal'. It's fucked that people view others like this, but then again, if you saw a guy wearing a dress and red lipstick what would you think?
Tight pants on guys: Why? Again, society views it as guys wearing female clothing. But this issue is hardly one because tight pants were worn by many. It's the addition of makeup and hairstyles so androgynous that it's hard to determine weather the person is male or female.
Outrageous hair: Why? Because hair is always ragged on. It's just the fact that everyones style looks the same and is just so outrageous. Black hair isn't always a must to dress alternatively.
Music: Why? Because like other generes that get shit (Death metal, etc) it's different from the norm. This area is hazy. It's bands that dress alternatively and sing about topics like death and despair. They are merged into a lump and considered 'emo'. Why? Because like the mindless drones that follow the stereotype, the music speaks of angst and have darker tones. I think that too many bands get crap because music is just music. I mean, rap gets shit too, don't forget that.
What about me? I dress how I want, I like the way tight pants look, and like having long hair. Retro is big for me, not just 'tight black, and maybe some grey and red'. Colors are great, blue and deep green are great colors. I'm generally happy, and try to treat others with respect and try not to judge. But I take this into consideration.
"I judge people that are fake, because they aren't being true to themselves and have no identity anyway."
What is fake? Fake is abandoning your identity and assimilating into something that isn't you. You may think that 'dressing like everyone else is me' but it's not. Theres way to expand your alternative clothing and hairstyles without looking like everyone else. Always stay true to yourself, and I cannot emphasize this enough. You think that 'I'll always be this way, and always dress the same.' Lies.
Look at the people who lived through the 70's and 80's. Clothing and style is always changing. Who knows, in the future tight pants might be the norm, but you never know. Do you see anyone tromping around in disco pants? Hippies were all about not judging and loving everybody. But this was helped by mind altering drugs and anti-war. Even then it dissipated.
Hippies were hated. 'Fucking tree hugging hippies'. Except the difference was that they were happy. People want to be surrounded by the good and fun in life, not the sad and despairing.
STOP CONFORMING. STOP LETTING HIDDEN GUIDELINES DEFINE WHO YOU ARE.
Seriously, life, isn't a seething pit of hate. It doesn't understand, and probably never will. But if your outlook is good, and your attitude is the best, people will notice. If people make fun of you, hate you and look down upon you. 'Fuck em'. Someone asks if your emo, don't studder, don't think about it. Look them into the eyes and say:
"I am, who I fucking am, I live the way I want, and dress they way I want, and I'm friends with whoever I want. I might look different than you, but underneath it all, we're made of the same stuff."

Dear boy, it's good that someone actually came out and said this it's really good.
But all I can see is you being flamed and people getting annoyed with you
"u hv no idea! wot my lyfe is lyk!"
"i try 2 mak frends ppl dnt lyk me!"
etc.
Thank you for trying to talk some sense into these drones and I hope someone does take it into their lives instead of just saying
'yah! i agree! luf you, it's good that u did that and i agree but i cut because i have to because my dad hits me'
But, yeah, cheers mate and good luck with your spiel.

Nice rant.
Some comments:
Emos are just the only ones openly bragging about it (except thos who do it for religious reasons - I guess those "brag" about it, too). And limiting it to cutting.
As so often balance and a middle course is the key.
What's wrong with guys wearing skirts? It has to start somewhere, sometime with someone. Just imagine the time when women started wearing trousers.
And of course everyone will say "that's just me, [fill in all scene stereotypes here] ist just how I am" - totally coincidence that they are like this now, when it's a trend, and have not been before, eh?
Oh, and why does everyone hate hippies?
Some comments:
Well, according to wikipedia self mutilation is pretty common, esp. in teenager years. It is also addictive.Xenomorph wrote: Cutting: Why? Because it's fucking self mutilation. Your causing harm to yourself and it's not helping anything. You can deal with your problems in more healthy ways.

On one hand you're right. On the other hand someone somewhere being worse off than you is no reason to stop complaining. You can not forbid unhappiness because children in Africa die. Everyone has the right to be unhappy.Xenomorph wrote: Excessive emotional issues: Why? Because you need to deal, everyone else does, and so do you. Your life doesn't really fucking suck. I still think we should break those gender stereotypes. It's too much in peoples heads, people need to be more open-minded.Xenomorph wrote: Makeup on guys: Why? Actually I think that conforming IS part of most peoples personality. So by conforming they are actually staying true to themselves. They just don't understand it or don't admit it.Xenomorph wrote: What is fake? Fake is abandoning your identity and assimilating into something that isn't you. Just quoting Face because his is shorter than yours, but completely agree. It's difficult for people to label me thou, I'm constantly jumping between screamo, grime, metal and rap music and I can dress "scene" one day and look like a gangster the next

I appreciate that you took the time to make such a long post with correct spelling and grammar. (I didn't notice any major mistakes) Although it was a tiny bit lengthy even for my taste. But thanks anyway.
Here are my thoughts on the issue and my personal experience.
I agree with you about the cutting. There is no point to it. I don't care how many people do it or how common it is. It's still not right. I hate when people simply do it for attention especially.
I have not dressed to please other people. I really hate the color pink. I think pink, red and orange all go really bad with my hair color. I don't like to wear white because it makes me look fat. Also I hate camo of any kind. I do like to wear blue, black, purple, green and brown. Everyone I knew hated my trench but I still wore it. It was what made me feel happy. People did not think my brand of shirts were cool but I did not care because I liked them. They were my style. In fact I was a little bit happy that my style was not popular because I wouldn't have people copy catting me.
As far as people being gender ambiguous I really don't mind. I am androgynous myself and have always been. I know it pissed guys off that they couldn't look at my cleavage like all the other girls at my school but I didn't care. It was just tough shit for them. If boys want to cover their blemishes with foundation I think it's a little odd but I would not condemn them for it.
I also support individualism. If it's not your style then don't do it, most importantly be yourself. That can be a hard thing to do if you don't know who you are. You're like a chameleon on a red sweater his whole life that doesn't know he's really green.
Also I do hate hippies. Sorry hippies, you smell and do drugs and disrespect the soldiers who protect you, you also raised one of the worst generations of kids ever.

Very well said.. But is it not in human nature to go with the pack, for safty and protection. Those whoo do break away, so to say, are themselves and gruoped with a diffrent heard(or label, such and emo)
that was bad*damn thoughts. Come out straight for once*
But those who do break away no longer care about the hread, and what they think, they are a person, free to have there own thoughts and say what they want.
yahhh....

I do believe that "emo music has evolved and changed, just like the "waves" of ska back in the day, so I can't say I agree with you much there.
I do however, agree about what you say about conformity and the "emo" style, but I don't think it's a bad thing to conform. What's the point of not conforming if your trying so hard to do it that you abandon a style that you like?
As for your individual points
Cutting: Your right, it's a waste. I posted a topic on this awhile back myself and the idiocy of it all. I don't have a problem with "bitching about your problems", but for heaven's sake, do something about them as well, don't sit in the corner and draw your own blood
Makeup on guys/tight pants: Actually, I think both look amazing on guys. I don't think men in modern society do enough to groom themselves. Makeup makes most women look better, it's the same on guys end.
Outrageous hair: Though "every cut looks the same", this can be true for any subculture hairstyles. I do think emo/scene hair looks WONDERFUL
Thats about all I can comment on though. I won't lie, I find some of your post very reasonable, but I don't think that everyone here can use it. Many people dress the way they do/engage in subculture views because they actually feel this way

I believe you're missing the point. Everyone conforms to something. It is when you claim to be an individual/unique by conforming to a mere trend that annoys people, and is probably the reason for the OP's post (not sure, long time since I read it).

This cannot be applied to everyone: those who suffer from a clinical depression. Saying 'do something about it' is like telling someone with broken legs to 'walk it off'.
