they are simply using satan as a symbol for their own nature. it was used because of his supposed personification of knowledge and inner desire, two driving forces in satanism.

I was brought up as a christian, but around 11 when I actually started to develop my own ideas, I preceeded to throw out all that rubbish and turned atheist.

I guess it develops from my view that for something really to be real, it needs proof, and unfortuanetly from my view there is nothing concrete to support most faiths. Science just seems to make so much more sense...
