i agree, certain people like being sterotyped.. eg. me, if its the right sterotype.. if somecame up to me and called me chav I'd proberly end up punching them.. 'cause I'm not chav but when people call me emo it sorta makes me smile 'cause its like I'm proud to be who I am and if other people know who I am then it makes me happy.. Very Happy

but everyone is different.. and people's minds work different so don't just assume people like to do things that way or like to do things this way.. and some people don't like being sterotyped. so don't judge people before you get to know them. 'cause you don't know about their family .. their friends.. or even their life!
i hope that i've cleared a lot up !! (:
Karma me kiddo's Very Happy

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Emo isn't dead XP

While the genre has changed a lot since the 80's, it definitely hasn't 'died' >.>

Little Soul wrote: Anyways. Labels will always be there, you might as well accept that fact right now.

Emo is a music genre, I think you guys get that. Derived from early 80's punk, and followed the fashion of the bands they listened to.
From there, yes, I think emo has evolved. I think the fashion oriented people moved on. Now those 'prehistoric' emos no longer exist in the Fashion world. Instead they are replaced by scenesters. You can label shit as much as you want but when it really comes down to it, it's all in personal taste.

Scenesters are known for loving hardcore, grindcore, and metal. NOT emo. Amirite?

So they are not 'original' "Emo Kids" but rather a new form of the lable. A scenester.

This is all talking stereotypically, but this is how people view it whether you like it or not.

So, if you think about it. Fashion and Music are totally separate. Scene kids can listen to emo music, or they can not even know it exists. They're still scene kids because of they way they dress.
Anyone can listen to any type of music, regardless, and it won't make their lable.

So to conclude, FASHION is what defines what lable you are.
And FASHION defines a "Scene Kid".
Music doesn't matter, I know many scene kids that listen to all kinds of music. ALL kinds.

So it is correct.
Emo is a genre of music. An old genre.
Scene is a relatively NEW FASHION.

Got it?

Hmm... a nice clear little summation there... Awesome... Cupcake anyone..?

That 'You don't know emo' site was pretty good...
Just a question...
If the flippy haired, tight jeaned, tight shirted, cut myself, wear eyeliner and cry boys aren't 'emo'... What are they... Society can't survive without a stereotype Razz

The stickies are pointless. Nobody reads them, and the mods usually just lock them so no one can reply anyway.

And to those that talk about the they try to ecplain emo isn't the proper term dont even bother. Most likely society will NEVER change there view on the term ever. Its to widespread even if you think scene is the right term(personally I don't either).

And I agree with the guy above if the fringe, tight pants etc arnt emo than what is?

I have a problem with that site creator =/
haha I found three incorrect facts on that site and one biased opinion XD

1. Rites of Spring did not invent emo, it is unknown who actually did they heavily influenced it however
2. He says emocore dosent exist. He also dosent realise that alot of bands he says arn't emo are, they are just the new indie emo.
3. He says it isn't short for emotional, as a matter afact it is, just the darker side of emotions, etc.

Just thought i'd point that out

OK, I've been to every Emo site I could find, and every site says Emo is a Music Genre, Scene is the fashion (and culture of emo music).
And anyone to disagree on those sites are corrected very quickly, especially the trolls and people that wish to fight that.

Emo is a genre of music: Correct

Scene is the fashion: Correct

Emo and scene are both labels: Correct

Labels are made by people: Correct

So that being said couldn't someone start a label for a style of clothing and call it "EMO".

I'm not saying that I am.

I'm just saying that it is possible.

Not correct, but the theory remains possible and seems to be moving in that direction.

Again, just so everyone is clear, I agree with Travis, but what I'm saying is possible.....

Good point. I'm still gonna correct people when they say the wrong thing, though, so hopefully it'll never happen
