Ok so you all know that there are people with diseases out there.

But do you think it could happen to you? I'm thinking a majority of you don't.

Here are some statistics from the American Social Health Association

More than half of all people will have an STD/STI at some point in their lifetime.

The estimated total number of people living in the US with a viral STD/STI is over 65 million. [2] Every year, there are at least 19 million new cases of STDs/STIs, some of which are curable.

Less than half of adults ages 18 to 44 have ever been tested for an STD/STI other than HIV/AIDS.

Each year, one in four teens contracts an STD/STI.

Well I know of at least 1 person on this forum that has herpes.

I'm not trying to pick on them. I'm just making a point that it's not that rare. (keeping in mind that a lot of people here haven't even had sex yet since they're young)

Do I think it could happen to me? Of course - it could happen to anyone. Am I going to stop having sex and let irrational fears get to me? No.

Quoted for truth. Common sense + condoms = success.

I don't have any STD's, and I don't know anyone who's got one either... But it wouldn't suprise me if like 4 of my friends did... Many of them aren't excactly careful... Its stupid cause they wouldn't listen to me if I told them to be more careful... And I have, but I think they don't believe it could happen to them... Bullshit!

ID, do you somehow have an STD paranoia? It seems to be constantly on your mind.

Side thought:
Is there a awareness month for accidents that can happen in road traffic? A lot more people die because of THAT.
Still I don't hear people preach avoiding driving licenses until you're 25 (young people cause a lot of accidents).

Also - your numbers only account for the USA, not worldwide.

And another side note: nearly everyone has herpes, HSV-1 that is.

Uhm, I know it's really common, but I've never had sex so I know I don't have any sexually transmitted diseases. XD If I did that'd be kinda weird.

You can still derive one, even if you don't have sex.

No but there is a lot of discouragement for young drivers. In a lot of places you can't get a license until you're at least 16. Many have curfews from driving after dark, with friends, or with cell phones. (there are laws against phones with adults too but some states the law is only for younger drivers) Also they have higher insurance payments so it's hardly ignored.

And driving is more of a daily requirement than sex (resist the urge for sarcasm)

I suppose I could dig up some world wide numbers again but it's not like you care anyway.

Half of the people I know have STDs, no joke. My best friend, her brother, his gf, my ex gf, her bf, my ex husband's best friend, one of my guy friends, and 2 of his ex gfs all have herpes. And the one guy friend also has hepatitis C. Scary stuff.
