If that's so, then what's scene?
Where did it come from?

screamo and screamo. emo and emo.

by NickC on 10-19-2008 4:05 am

From reading a good few threads in this here forum, it looks like there is a great debate about screamo and emo.

What we all need to remember is that there are 2 different types of screamo and 2 different types of emo.
2 different things which share the same name.

You get screamo bands such as Diatro, Kaospilot, Orchid and Funeral Diner etc etc.
And you get screamo bands such as Silverteen, Underoath, The Bled etc etc.

You get emo bands such as Rites Of Spring, pg. 99 and End Of A Year etc etc.
And you get emo bands such as My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy etc etc.

We need to accept this fact and get over it.

Disagreed.

Emo and Screamo, as a subgenre of punk, should have the same DIY ethics that all punk bands have. And they should at least have some similar musical qualities. MCR doesn't even remotely resemble Pg. 99, and vice versa.

A lot of these bands aren't emocore, they're real screamo, like Circle Takes the Square, City of Caterpillar, I Would Set Myself on Fire for You, The Khayembii Communique, La Quiete, Love Like... Electrocution, and Neil Perry

PS. I fucking LOVE Circle Takes the Square and Neil Perry

Ok, "emocore" is a terrible term. Screamo IS emo, why does no one seem to get that?

Erm...well, Screamo branched off of Emo, but then again, Emo also branched off of punk, and punk off of rock and roll, and rock and roll off of blues, so why don't we just call all of these 'Blues Bands'

PS. Just 'cause I love you so much for putting up this thread, Karma cookie for you ^^

I don't think that's necessary with what's known today as emo and screamo though. (MCR etc)

It's confusing when different things share the same name, but I don't see why they can't.

So when a bunch of people don't know what a word means, that word then means that bunch of people's definition?

I think there needs to be some sort of boundary when we're describing two different types of music.
