A Basic Guide to Emotional Hardcore

I've listened to at least half the bands on the list - some more than others. My favorites so far are CTTS, Gospel, Off Minor, Pg. 99 and Hot Cross.

I feel like Gray Matter deserve to be listed in these bands also. And possibly a few other bands...

And it's to there you must be hastening, For all hearts dream"...

Yeah, that list was just cut and paste from the link I gave. Speaking of which, here is another really nice source on emotional hardcore with a bit more detailed of a bands list:

These are the ones I've listened to and liked this far;
Saetia
Raein
pg.99
CTTS
City of Caterpillar
Mineral
Rites of Spring.

But a lot more is downloading (;

(and now I'm soooo inspired to start my own emo band, lol. I'm gonna learn how to scream, that's for sure.)

Excellent guide, Bug.
I hope the kids will read and learn.

Mineral is more of a post-hardcore band in the same vein as Sunny Day Real Estate and early Jimmy Eat World. And I'd love to be able to scream like some of these people too. Circle Takes the Square's vocal interplay is excellent for a shouting chick and a screaming dude who sounds like Conor Oberst when he's not screaming.

Interview at the ruins by CTTS is fast becoming my fave non NIN song.

Hide the petals underneath that bedroom floorboard
and they will wither without fail or success.
Put the people in the hollow box they crafted,
bolt the doors and watch them perish.
Its a cautious descent, so polite and pensive at first.
But the only truth is change, have patience
(every hundredth year, a single breath and then its over...)
Even if only for a minute for a minute its over.
Even if only for a minute.
So brave in the face of all those roots that ruin,
to stand so tall when in fact in ruins.
To face that corner of the box and dive in,
just the sound alone of its humble breath.
A murmur from the ruins echoes softly as the roots undo, and the branch becomes...

This is really a good, basic way to explain what emo is. Although none of the sources go into much detail, which isn't very helpful to me. I knew all the information that you've given, and often show that "You Don't Know Emo" site to friends.

I have never heard of any of these bands.
And I feel Moufette qualifies.
Just saying :]

If you haven't heard of any of these bands you really shouldn't be recommending more.

You don't know emo, if you haven't heard of at least 5 of them (and listened to them)

This is like saying that Slightly Stoopid is punk but never having heard of Minor Threat.

In other words, you have no clue what you're talking about.

EDIT: Moufette's myspace has themselves labeled as indie / down-tempo / folk.

How do you read hardcore out of that?

Thank you! Finally someone says something about this, thank you Bug.
As I lay dying, I wonder, I should be happy. Why am I crying?
